  1. JThe course aims to provide candidates with the necessary knowledge to become a trainee member of a NHSS 12D temporary traffic management team.  This is a classroom based course.

Candidates should attend if they are required by their employer to work on rural & urban roads performing temporary traffic management duties, including mobile works on single carriageways, and the set up and dismantle of 2 way temporary traffic lights, stop & go, & give/take or priority systems.

Please note that candidates are required to pass a series of on-site assessments to achieve a full M2 qualification. When the assessment is completed a Lantra Awards skills card is issued.

Course objectives:

  • Be aware of Sector Schemes
  • Be aware of Health and Safety requirements
  • Be aware of Risk Assessments and Method Statements
  • Be aware of the relevant Codes of Practice and other associated documentation when
    involved in traffic management
  • Identify the equipment required in Temporary Traffic Management
  • Understand the different methods of traffic control
  • Be aware of the requirements of non-motorised road users
  • Be prepared to undertake assessments to demonstrate an ability to implement, maintain
    and safely remove traffic control systems
  • Understand the requirements for Mobile and Short duration works
  • Understand the different methods of both passive and positive traffic control
  • Understand the principles involved when dealing with roundabouts, road closures and
    diversions.
